Fourth Nine Weeks:

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade students are continuing to read towards their 25 book reading goal.  Students will expand from a three-paragraph essay to a five-paragraph essay.  They will work on writing a good thesis statement and including many facts and examples to support their views.  Students are reading Shiloh and Freak the Mighty and discussing these books in groups.  In addition we are practicing the Socratic method and using the Junior Great Books program to read some interesting short stories.

Eighth Grade

Eighth Graders continue to perfect the five paragraph essay and work on diagramming clauses and phrases.  They are reading a novel, Day of Tears.  It is a historical fiction novel that discusses slavery.  Eighth graders will also explore the world of Edgar Allan Poe.  They will be reading several poems and short stories.
